Legacy

Happy Birthday to my son K-Pearl.  It is interesting to ponder our deepest dreams and aspirations for our children.  During a time of war and much strife; we begin to realize that our existence is interdependent of our choices.  As a generation gets older; and the earth receives the next generation--we begin to realize how our choices as a people affect the world around us.  One generation leaves a legacy for the rising generation.  What will our legacy be?  A legacy of war and turmoil; or can we find peace?

On my sons birthday--I especially think about legacy.  I want the best for each of my kids.  Amongst many tragedies I am truly grateful to be where I am, are, and been.  I believe in humanity; that innate within in us is a light of Christ that knows the difference between right and wrong and yearns for peace, love, and happiness.  As parents we should look for ways to positively affect social and political change--as these aspects of our society directly correlate with the type of legacy that we will leave our children.

From the generation of The Great Depression came insurmountable riches. Many of today's leaders are defined in part because of a legacy of thrift and self-reliance learned from parents affected by the hard economic times.  One of the best ways for us to positively affect our legacy is through our children.  They are the leaders and ultimately become the decision makers for tomorrow.  Our children are the fruits of our labor.

K-Pearl is going to be an especially sweet fruit!  Happy Birthday, son!

  1. Well said! Enjoy your fruit because they ripen fast, one day they are turning 5 and the next they're all grown up!

    Happy Birthday little guy!!

  2. Things definitely happen fast. I feel like I blinked and he turned 5. This is one of the reasons I try to enjoy each moment. Because they literally come and go in a flash.
