What's In A Name?

Okay, so we have officially reached the final weeks and I feel like we have run out of time for names...we have always waited until our babies were born to name them.
For us it comes naturally when we have held them. There's just something special about that first bond with each child.
My husband's name is Kenneth, he was named after a minister.

Meaning: Handsome
--It fits him perfectly! :D

My first name is Ane.  (pronounced Ah-NEH)

Meaning: Gracious
I was named after my dad's aunt, one of his father's sisters.

I love my name. It's unique, but simple. It gets mispronounced a.lot. But, it never
bothered me. It's fun to see how people pronounce my name: Annie, Uh-nayy, Ann...
I mean even after I have told them how to pronounce it several times, they still say it funny...
My BFF's have funny stories about when they would call my house and ask for me, and my
dad would sit there and correct them with the proper Tongan way to say my name.
Almost with an "H" sound at the beginning...no seriously. My dad was very picky about it.
But even though his name is Semisi in Tongan, which means James...he would have "white folks" call him "Jim", which was even more funny because he had always made such fuss about how my name is pronounced. It was too funny. It got on my nerves then, but now that my dad is much older..79 to be exact...I miss those funny things about him. He has had multiple Strokes and has survived them, but it has left him unable to walk, and he has short-term memory loss. He can no longer care for himself. My mom takes care of him along with the help of my brother and his wife. They are amazing and love them so much and I am grateful for all that they do.

When it comes down to it, I know that whatever choice we make in naming him will be the right name. I just hope that when he is grown up, that he will happy with his name!

  1. You have a beautiful name and thanks for showing how to pronounce it. I totally understand where you are coming from with the whole mispronouncing the name.

My name is Saimi (pronounced Si-me) It's my grandmothers name who was Finnish. I love my name, even though I've been explaining it my whole life. At least I can say it's a great conversation starter HA!

I'm sure when the time comes you will come up with the perfect name for your little baby!
