The Nitty Gritty
When it comes down to the "Nitty Gritty" of motherhood, you are basically whittled down to be the person who cleans up the messes that no one else will go near....or perhaps the person who hardly sleeps because she has been woken up throughout the night by almost all the children. Seriously, they just keep taking turns waking up as soon as I have just laid down. Most of the time it's because their blankets have fallen off, and they were freezing. However, there are those sweet little boy surprises..that I had never experienced with my daughters...bed wetting! I can't stand it! Sometimes we have forgotten to take K-Pearl to the bathroom because he fell asleep before he was in bed and then as soon as I enter a peaceful slumber...someone wakes up. I have been working the graveyard shift with my husband for a few weeks. Ironically since we have started this new job, we have been away from 1am-4am. They have started to sleep better, probably because I had always coddled them back to sleep from the time they were babies until now. So it seems that my absence during the night has helped them to grow to be more independent sleepers. Sometimes there are situations when less mothering helps. So do you think that if I stop doing their laundry and changing their diapers, they will learn to do both things themselves?
Haha, my Mom stopped doing the laundry when I was in junior high and after that I always did my own.
ReplyDeleteBUT I have been teaching my kids to put away their clean laundry (nothing is worse than putting it away. I can put loads in to clean all day but I loathe to sort it and put it away). I had to limit the kids to only a few outfits but it helped with the laundry so much!
It is really hard to help teach my kids how to clean up and take the time to get them to do it. My MIL who had 8 kids says that the more kids you have the less you should have to do and the better your house should look. Certainly, this is truer as the kids get older. But she really expected her kids to do a lot of the cleaning and they did.
Now the sleep thing ... they do get much better at sleeping as they grow up! Then the problem is making sure they get out of bed in the morning!
